The moment Jozo Weider set eyes on Blue Mountain in 1940, he saw the potential for a great ski area. Blue has the highest vertical in Ontario and an amazing 2.5 miles of horizontal. Only two hours from Toronto. Blue Mountain quickly became Ontario's biggest and best ski resort.
Jozo had a vision for Blue Mountain. He saw a resort that invested in technology to create great skiing experiences. He also knew from his experiences in Europe that a great ski hill needed a great village. He understood that to make a permanent connection and become a true community, Blue Mountain needed to become a four-season resort. Most of all, Jozo knew that it was important to look toward the future and what Blue Mountain could become.
Jozo Weider died in 1971, before his dream to create a vibrant, year-round resort village at the base of Blue was realized.
His family continued to grow the resort into a major year-round destination. In 1999, Blue Mountain Resort entered into a partnership with Intrawest. At that time, we relied on Our Resort Creed [pdf] to help define, "What is an Intrawest Resort?" at Blue Mountain. And now, vision and expertise have teamed up with tradition as Intrawest and Blue Mountain's founding family continue to honour Jozo's vision of Blue.
